Murky Mysterious Magic

My girlfriend and I had a music night the other day and this is one of the songs she played. I like it when you listen to a song and immediately think, I want to hear that again. You know that something is really going right. I think Grimes is this generations answer to Björk, she has the same kind of strange experimental music, slightly otherworldly vocals, and seems to just operate on a different level to most other musicians. And she’s a bit weird too. For example she has a new album coming out in Feb next year (Miss_Anthropocene) which is about a demon that lives in space and loves the thought of an apocalypse… Yeah, ok. This track is one of the singles she’s recently dropped, and I’ve really enjoyed it’s ethereal nature. I think I prefer the edited version but can’t seem to find that one on youtube, so here’s the full length. Do yourself a favour and play it but don’t watch the visualiser.

Grimes – So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth

Collect Call Computer

Today we have a song from the Danish band Lowly‘s new album Heba. They’ve struck a pleasant balance of dreamy upbeat indie rock, which has a bit of a dark edge to its lyrics. Yay! This is reminding me somewhat of Warpaint‘s self titled album, while the vocals give me flashes of Edie Brickell. All things good.

Lowly – Deer Eyes

This Is A Test Print

I’ve decided the best way of coming up with titles for my posts is to pilfer words from the clutter on my desk. Let’s see how that goes. In other news, here is a song that I should have put up yesterday but completely forgot about. My bad. This is off SOHN‘s latest album Rennen. It’s got the feels! It’s a nice uncluttered sound – simple drum beats, a bit of keyboard with occasional electronic flourishes, and understated vocals. What’s not to like?

SOHN – Signal

Conjuring

Today’s song brings to mind artists such as The Joy Division, M83, and The Drums… I think it’s something about the lo-fi vibe. Seems like some good clean chill out music. More listening may ensue.

Black Marble – Iron Lung

I’m An Underwater Engine. Yes I Am

Here’s something to mildly counteract the tone of yesterdays song (and potentially tomorrow’s one too… he says with ominous overtones). It’s pretty cheery and got a nice upbeat… ummm… beat to it. Yes. At some point in the near future I’ll try pop up a song off their latest album. But until then, this is off of 2013’s album Ultramarine.

Young Galaxy – What We Want
