Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen

This chap has a new album dropping tomorrow and I for one am pretty interested in seeing how it turns out. This track is an interesting combination of chill out and shredding. The words I’m looking for… feel good instru-metal? There’s definitely an uplifting vibe to it. If I remember rightly, the dude just quit his job to focus full time on his music, and best of luck to him. Keep up the stellar work!

I Built The Sky – Up Into The Ether

An Aptly Titled Band Name

I am going to kick off this week with something a bit different. I would describe this as if Hammock decided to go metal. There is a real atmosphere to the songs, they’re moody, dense numbers, yet the music knows how to soar at times. The vocals might turn you off, but if you can look past them, then I’m sure you will find something to like in this. I keep hearing positive things about this album, and after a few spins, feel like I want to listen to it a lot more inorder to catch all the nuances. Seems like an album for the darkness. Sadness is from Illinois and have been making music since 2014. I might just have to go back for some of their earlier stuff…

Sadness – In The Distant Travels

Slow Off The Mark

So here’s the tune I was supposed to put up yesterday but kinda forgot/got lazy. It’s some nitty gritty Instrumetal which will totally go down a treat for your friday. This track has some satisfying ‘djenty’ sounds going on… Gotta say I really don’t like the word ‘djent’ but it is what it is, a term derived from the low tuned sounds of the bass (if I remember rightly). Bonus points on this track is that it has Jakub Zytecki providing some guitaring and soloing.

Modern Day Babylon – Lost In Dreams

Following In Footsteps

After my recent post of the Grails song, this band appeared before me who definitely are rocking a bit of a Grails vibe. So I thought I’d share. Mentioned as sounding like Chelsea Wolfe and True Widow (among others), I would be remiss not to give them a listen, and initial results suggest it’s good! Very atmospheric.

Palehorse/Palerider – Sundowning

Double Day

I’ve been hearing rumblings of this album so thought I’d check it out. Always happy to find a new (good) artist from the mother country. These guys are from Wellington and have just put out a very solid album of Atmospheric Instrumetal called Unearthing. Loving the dark tones of this song in particular.

Into Orbit – Stone Circles

Lost In Thought, Oblivious Of Time

Well this seems a befitting tune for the day considering the current weather that’s floating around down here. If you do nothing else but read the titles of this guys album, you’ll be doing yourself a favour. They bring to mind a less serious Red Sparowes. Musically this wee album is bad ass, although the way it’s structured is a bit odd. There are 4 tracks of decent lengths, but within one you might here several different ‘songs’, I’m not sure what to make of that. But just listen to it as a whole and it’s great. Solid Instrumetal.

Cloudkicker – A Weather Front Was Stalled Out In The Pacific – Like A Lonely person, Lost In Thought, Oblivious Of Time
