Here’s some interesting sonical stuff for ya. These guys are a psychedelic noise rock band from the UK and this song is off their 2016 album Lucky Beast. There’s definitely a bit of interesting stuff going on in there. Have an ear gander!
Boy I seem to be finding a bit of my old music lately. It’s kinda weird to listen to these songs and go back to old flats/jobs/friends who were there when I first listened to them. Here is this weeks “The End” themed song. Another bang up job by Cake, off their album Pressure Chief. Melancholy yet uplifting at the same time.
Cake – End Of The Movie
Here is something just a little bit different to signpost the middle of the week, for Wednesday is nearly gone. Yay! This is one to have on in the background and weird people out when they tune into the lyrics…
Future Of The Left – Singing Of The Bonesaws
When Planet Of Ice came out, it was a formative album in my growing music collection. I spent the whopping $30 and recklessly bought the CD, because hey, I was a freshly minted working man. It went on high rotation and will always be the sound of that summer in 2007. I never really got into any of their albums since then, but I think that’s on my shifting music taste. Which brings us to their upcoming album VOIDS and this, the single they’ve released from it.
Minus The Bear – Invisible
I’m pretty sure ol’ Damon Albarn is up there for one of the most prolific artists around. This is one of his side projects, The Good, The Bad And The Queen, a collaborative effort with Danger Mouse and a couple other fellas. It’s a great album, got a real good chill-out vibe, though I do feel like playing poker and walking around the Wellington waterfront after listening to it. Incidentally, this song is the Tide track for the week: “In a tide end town”. Lots of intriguing noise nuances on the album, good for headphones is what I’m saying.
The Good, The Bad And The Queen – Northern Whale
A long time ago I used to work in Wellington in one of the strangest jobs I had – databasing crustaceans. The novelty wore off after a few months of shrimp, and let me tell you, dead shrimp all tend to look the same! One of the things that got me by was drinking copious amounts of coffee from the nearby coffee shop. I got to know the barista and we bonded over a mutual dislike of our jobs. Alas he moved away and while I’ve caught up with him once since then, he (or me, I’m not sure) dropped off the radar. In a spot of boredom I looked him up recently and found out he’s been making some music since I last saw him. I present to you, some lo-fi indie chill vibe stuff from the coffee guy.
Champion Racehorse – Another Town
Here’s something of a funky chilled out indie styled song. It’s got a laid backness to it which is pleasing, as is the drumming. I enjoy that also. Rumspringa are a Californian band who make some pretty cool music, this song is off their 2011 EP, Mosaic. Reminds me of a few bands I can’t put my finger on right now (and that really bugs me).
